Exercise Your Dog
Your healthy, adult dog needs to exercise at least 3-4 times per week to the point of the tongue hanging out and panting heavily.
They thrive on tapping into their natural athletic abilities and learning new things. They thrive on engaged time with you, and just being joyful. You'd be surprised at how many dogs I see that don't know how to do dog things -- and people who don't fully understand their dog's mental and physical needs.
Get Into The Core and Soul of Who your dog is and fulfill those needs. You'll improve his health, state of mind, your relationship -- and your training results. You're not going to build confidence, release anxiety, resolve aggression, and move them forward if you don't.
Engagement games With You. Activities should simulate their natural genetic instincts. Not only is this fun for the dog, but it also strengthens the relationship with you, and it will improve your overall training.
Playdates with other dogs are fun. With the right playgroups, it can be a great release of energy for your dog. But it will do little for advancing your training or your relationship. And ultimately may not do much to relieve your dog's anxieties, stressors, triggers, and behavior.
Work your dog. If you can't walk your dog long enough with enough intensity to get him panting -- consider a weighted backpack, pull harnesses or a treadmill.... bike? rollerblades?
Your dog needs the release, the outlet, the joy.
You’ll see benefits in health, behavior, and longevity in a well-exercised dog.
“Exercise for our dogs, especially outside, in the fresh air lead to an increase in natural killer cells, neutrophils and motocytes, which ultimately increases immune function.” ~ Jeannie Thomason VND Natural Rearing: Breeding and Raising Dogs The Way Natural Intended.
