Whose Stress Is It?
Just read an interesting thread in a neighborhood group about a cat needing to go to the vet for stress.
Long story shortened....
An elderly lady moves to a new neighborhood.
The neighbor is mean! Shining lights at her house. Calling AC on her indoor/outdoor cat.
He yells at kids, pets, and neighbors alike.
Cat is showing signs of emotional stress.
So who is stressed?
They Both Are. Owner and the pet.
This is not different for your dog. In fact, studies have shown your dog will synchronize their stress level with yours. And as you see with emotional support dogs and service dogs, many naturally try to help you relieve your stress.
We don’t often stop and look at the big picture. Just what we can see externally in our dog or their behavior. We often worry about our loved ones more than ourselves. In almost every case we need to look at the big picture. What dynamics may be changing in the family? What emotions may you be working through or not acknowledging? As your trainer, you don’t need to disclose personal details to me — but you do need to admit they are present and begin to understand how it may be affecting your dog’s behavior.
In cases of stress and anxiety, or even aggression & trauma, I look to do some essential oil work and energy work for the pet and guardian if they are open.
I’m hoping to open more people to natural options.
If you have issues with your pet’s emotions and behavior consider a discussion! Invite your friends to ask their questions here too.
You may be amazed.
